There are three powertrain options to choose from. The standard engine is 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder with 181 horsepower and 190 lb-ft of torque. If you want more power, there is an available 2.0-liter turbo that delivers 250 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. Both of these engines are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
For the first time since 2012, there is a hybrid version of the Escape. It is powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, an electric motor, and a 1.1-kwh lithium-ion battery pack. Power is sent to the front wheels through a continuously variable transmission (CVT). This combination is good for 200 horsepower and 209 lb-ft of torque.
Inside, both front and back-seat passengers will have plenty of room to stretch out. The new model is longer than the outgoing version. In the second row, passengers will get 38.8 inches of legroom. The back seat also slides and reclines for added comfort. Behind the rear seats, there is 37.5 cubic feet of cargo space with the seats pushed all the way forward. Fold down the seats and the cargo area grows to 65.4 cubic feet.
The Escape comes well-equipped with technology including Bluetooth® connectivity, a 4.2-inch LCD screen, and two USB ports. Higher trim levels add an 8-inch touchscreen, satellite radio, and a B&O 10-speaker audio system.
All Escape models come standard with advanced driver safety aids including forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, and active lane control. Additional available safety features including adaptive cruise control, lane centering, a head-up display, and a 360-degree camera system.
