When most people think of Arizona, their first thought isn't usually “winter.” However, the Phoenix metropolitan area does have quite a few December events geared towards celebrating the onset of the cooler months and the holiday season. Some even have fake snow for the sake of giving attendees a more traditional winter experience. This time of year is great for finding some festive activity to do with the whole family.
Holidays at Desert Ridge Marketplace
Starting at 7 and 8 pm at Desert Ridge Marketplace through the entire month of December, snow will fall! The marketplace has a great variety of things to do, such as ice-skating on the weekends, Story Time with the PBS Channel, and a Sounds of the Season holiday-themed musical performance.
Winter Wonderland at Westgate
This event takes place at Fountain Park in the Westgate Entertainment District and features activities like visiting Santa Claus, a Menorah Lighting on December 13th, a “nightly snowfall,” holiday skating, and horse-drawn carriage rides, along with many more. Wander the park with a date or with the whole family; there's bound to be lots for you to do. The Arizona Broadway Theatre
This theater is also putting on A Christmas Carol throughout December, for those with a flair for the performing arts. This traditional play about Scrooge being visited by the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future is sure to delight all ages.
If you're looking for a holiday lights spectacle to view, Phoenix Zoo is putting on its annual ZooLights event, while the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess has its Christmas at the Princess light display. Las Noches de las Luminarias takes place at the Desert Botanical Garden, while Historic Downtown Glendale offers viewers the Glendale Glitters Event.
