Sanderson Ford Proudly Serves Peoria, AZ

A major suburb of Phoenix, Peoria, Arizona is home to more than 154,000 residents, making it the ninth largest city in the state of Arizona. Known as the spring training home for the San Diego Padres and Seattle Mariners, Peoria sees a lot of action when it comes to sports. The city’s history starts with its founding in 1897 and while it isn’t as old as other cities, it’s found its place on Money Magazine’s Top 100 Places to Live. Featuring attractions and local eateries that will leave visitors wanting more, Peoria is a major hot spot.

Peoria saw a boom in population thanks to the railroad depot located in the city. Largely responsible for turning the city into what it is today, the railroad depot was sold to the city of Scottsdale in 1972. In 1954, Peoria was home to nearly 2,000 residents. Following World War II and the presence of Luke Air Force Base, the city’s population grew significantly, jumping from 12,351 in 1980 to more than 50,000 in 1990.

Today, the city is home to many attractions that revolve around art and culture, like the Arizona Broadway Theater and Musical Instrument Museum. Visitors who want something more active can check out the many hiking trails. Lake Pleasant Regional Park spans more than 10,000 acres and includes two marinas as well as gliding lessons and archeological sites.

Peoria is chock full of local and American eateries. Visitors who want something familiar can check out places like Cracker Barrel or The Cheesecake Factory. To see what the locals are raving about, visitors can also check out some of the local restaurants that you won’t find anywhere else.

The Peoria Café is a family restaurant that serves breakfast and lunch. Featuring specials and daily favorites, this restaurant will make any out-of-towner feel right at home. Mercer’s Restaurant is another local favorite that’s served the community since 1987. Offering some of the greatest service and best food in Peoria, this restaurant is one no visitor can pass up!
